Sam Update

Sam has been discharged from the inpatient rehab unit at Shepard and has started outpatient therapy.  He and his mom, Katie, are staying in the family apartments close by.  They are excited about this new stage.

Sam continues to make wonderful progress.  He is now able to walk with minimal help, go up stairs, type a bit on the computer, and get food from plate to mouth successfully!  He still is mostly numb from the neck down, but told his mom a day or so ago that he could feel that the water was hot on his feet during his shower.

Please continue your prayers for Steve, Katie, Sam, and the rest of the family.  As all of us know, what happens to one of us, happens to the whole family and they continue to covet your prayers.

Update on Sam

For one reason or another, I didn’t get notices of new updates for Sam for several days last week. That, combined with my parent’s visit, meant that I didn’t read anything or see any pictures for about 6 days.

The progress he has made is nothing short of miraculous!  Sam is now standing and taking lots of steps with the assistance of his walker.  The strength in his hands has improved to the point that he is able to go without his wrist braces for some of the time.  He is learning to use a man powered wheelchair as well as zipping around in his electric chair.  His plumbing issues are becoming easier and more “natural” every day which is a huge thing for him.  He is a far different young man than that one wheeled into Shepherd a mere month ago lying still on a stretcher.  In many ways.

Prayers are being answered.  All you have to do is look at the smiling faces beaming out from their photos to see that they are filled with hope.  Please continue to pray for all of them as Sam’s recovery continues.   He has made amazing progress but there is still a long journey ahead.

Their faith is strong.  And an inspiration to all of us following them on this very unexpected journey.
