Twinges

This weekend was a blessedly uneventful one.  Dinner with friends, a little yard work (for him), church and a movie.

Oh, the movie.

If the film “Babies” is showing anywhere within a 100 miles of you please go see it.  It will be the best 90 minutes you’ve spent in a long time.

It will also make you remember every cute thing your own kids ever did at that age and make you wonder how the time has gone so quickly.

It will make you slightly embarrassed to be an American.  The baby who was born in a hut, crawled around in the dirt, chewed on dead animal bones and never saw a diaper was the first to reach every milestone.  We worry way too much about things here in the good ole USA.

And I should warn you that it will make your uterus twinge (my apologies to the men out there).  It will make you dream of adopting babies and you will start plotting ways to fill empty bedrooms in your house with children of all colors.

Go here and watch the trailer.

But don’t say you weren’t warned.

If you don’t like movies with subtitles, then you might just want to stop reading right now.  But if you can tolerate reading the movie as you are watching it, this one is so worth it.

There is enough action in it to keep the man in your life happy and a good love story to make watching the war scenes tolerable.

This is the first in a trilogy of movies about Genghis Kahn.  The second comes out this year sometime and we can’t wait.  It’ll make you want to visit that part of the world but very glad to live in this one.

Because there is just so much “Housewives of Orange County” that a girl can watch before she just feels bad about herself (or so I’ve heard), the cure seems to be a few episodes of this.

We can’t get enough of this couple.

Two imperfect people finding out that they are perfect for one another.

Nothing to be embarrassed about watching this one.

I love the BBC.

I have a few things to say about this past week.  It’s been busy and wonderful in many ways.

But I can’t put two words together because

FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE!!!

What is Johnnie Weir’s costume going to look like tonight!  I ‘m not sure he can beat the pink and black corset he had on two nights ago, but we’ll see……

There is something slightly disturbing about him, don’t you think?

My money is on the dude that was dressed like a crow for the sort program.

What’s with all the feathers this year?

So I’ll be holding my breath while quads are attempted and falls are taken.  And perhaps while feathers are shed and tassels shaken.

See you next week.

Happy weekend.

My New Obsession

They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

I’m not sure I’m there yet.

A couple of weeks ago, I was convicted about the fact that I had not watched “Friday Night Lights”.

So I made the mistake of putting it on our Netflix instant que.

I’m pretty sure I have a problem.

Let’s just say that I found myself sneaking off every chance I could trying to watch all 22 episodes of the first season.  Washing more clothes than I have to just so I could have an excuse to watch.  I may have let my children play more computer games than was healthy while I locked myself in the basement.  I may have even been watching it when I should have been getting ready for something that resulted in me having to run around like a chicken with it’s head cut off at the last minute.

But if you have ever loved high school football you might want to join me in my new obsession. If like me, you can still remember the glory of the 1976 football team that played for the state championship and the way it captivated a small town you’ll be sneaking off from your responsibilities, too.

Now that “Top Chef” (I still can’t remember which brother was who) (Kevin should have won), and “Project Runway” are finished for the season, I was wondering just what quality television I was going to fill my time with this winter.

We have a winner.

If you are a fan of original BBC version of  “The Office”, you’ll LOVE this new show.

The IT Crowd.

IT = information technology.

Now maybe it’s because I live with a self confessed computer geek myself, but I laughed myself silly over the first couple of episodes.

There are a few bad words…..it is the BBC after all, but the guy on the left is just hilarious.

And to give credit where credit is due……I first heard about the new love of my life on this blog.

Try it out.  It’ll make you miss Michael, Brian, Kevin, Heidi and Tim just a little bit less…….
