Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!

Sara is going to grow up one day and her "green pepper story" is going to be the "pancake story". When the triplets were born my family got fed every night come hell or high water. About 4 nights out of 7 it was Pancakes! She hates 'em to this day!

My mother ALWAYS had a "prepared with love" dinner on the table every evening - sometimes twice during harvesting season. We (4 siblings) were the laziest, unhelpful children in the world. My father wasn't even checkout on how to make toast. Now she's drinking a gin & tonic every night making drunk calls to her children. I think I just skipped a step.

part 2. I was one of those dads who occasionally did diapers. Can you imagine 4 in the house running around in diapers? I didn't think so.

Now that we have heard from the grandmas: a memory from Sodus Point. Circa 1951, the main cook was my legal guardian, Aunt Ethel. I was age 11, both my parents had died. One of her annual spring meals I loved. The main meal was strawberry shortcake - yup - one large standard table plate, covered with multiple split biscuits, smothered with fresh strawberries and real hand whipped cream. That was it for that evening. It had most of what you need, the protein in the cream, the fresh fruit, the "bread" mmmmmmmmmm. May she rest in peace. Actually, I think she is looking down, reading blogs. She had 4 sons who fought in WWII, and each came home. The other 6 kids she had were born in the farmhouse, including two sets of twins 20 months apart. They hardly do it that way anymore. Her last soldier, now age 90, is in hospice.

Oh, you know how I hate people kissing my feet!!!! It was easier to put a meal on the table because if I didn't, Grandma would find out and fire in and cook an 8 course dinner and then call and say, I knew you all just had sandwiches, (tacos, hamburgers, etc) so I've got a little bit cooked up down here. At which point there was mass exodus next door to eat whatever was on the table. Your dad always thought that made me mad but it didn't because many times the next night she had leftovers and you guys ate down there again. What would I have done without Grandma???

It's so true.... we don't realize what our Moms (and Dads, too) did for us until we become one ourselves. Good for you for telling your Mom - and the rest of us, too.

I still laugh out loud when I hear (or read) this story. If I remember right (and at this point I might not) he moved his furniture back into its previous position. And, by the way, it took days and days to get that wallpaper off the walls.

I am late to the party as usual, but I still had to comment! If you are cold you definitely turn the air DOWN. If you need to move the meeting to a later time You move it BACK! Anybody want a "BAGGEL"!?

Gracie is feeling like Lucy is a kindred spirit right about now as I read the story to her and she is remembering the "ferris wheel" ride she took when Lucy got after her on July 4th!
