Elena stayed home from school today (curse you, H1N1). She did fine for about an hour and a half…..maybe two. Then she kept looking at the clock and saying “Only 3 1/2 more hours till Sissie is home.”
“Only 2 hours til Sissie is home.”
“Only 10 minutes til Sissie is home.”
She loves her sister.

2002
They have been close from the start. Katie cried and cried when she came to see her new baby sister in the hospital and then had to leave her behind.
They have pretty much been joined at the hip ever since.

2003
Katie is very protective.

Partners in crime.

2004
Total opposites in some ways and identical in others.

On the way to piano tonight she had a few questions and observations.
“Mommy, do you think you would have liked being an only child?”
“Well, I never was an only child except for the 18 months before Uncle Mike was born and I don’t remember any of that. But, no, I don’t think I would like being an only child at all. I’m glad I have my brother and sister.”
“Yeah, I think it would be so lonely to be an only child. Cause when you thought of a funny joke you’d have no one to laugh at it with.”
I predict a lot of laughter in their future.

*** I got a shout out from Big Mama yesterday and I can’t help it, I feel like a rock star!

That is so sweet. I love the pictures, they are such beautiful kids.

This is one of my favorite ones yet! And speaking as an only child, Elena’s right. Growing up, the thing I wanted more than anything else was a brother – an older one at that!

I love these pictures…and what a great story. I have to agree it would be lonely being an only child…except when you’re both teenagers and have to share a bathroom…and back in the day, a phone!
