Food. Glorious Food.

I am obsessed.  Totally and completely obsessed.

I can’t stop watching Food Network and the Cooking Channel.  I’m besotted by Jamie at Home and The Barefoot Contessa.  I’ve ordered 3 new cookbooks in the last week and am trying my best not to order 3 more on my wish list.

Those of you who know me well will find none of this unusual.  You know I love to cook.  I read cookbooks like they are novels.  But here’s the thing.  I can’t taste any of it!  Everything I put in my mouth these days taste like lard.  Or what I suppose lard would taste like.  And the texture of everything is thrown way off, too.  It’s the weirdest thing.

JD thinks I’m torturing myself surrounding myself with all these images and promises of food that I can’t really enjoy myself.  But I don’t find that to be the case.

I still love seeing if I can replicate a great recipe and I still love gathering people around my table to feed them and see if I can get them to ooh and ahh a little bit.  Even if that means that I have to get someone else to check the seasoning in the stew tell me if these chocolate chip cookies really are the best in the world. (Oh yes, they are.)

I’ll be able to taste again soon enough.  Until then, a girl can’t let herself get rusty, now can she?

These post chemo days have been much better than the last round.  Thank you for your continued prayers.  One more to go!  Kinda….

Food Glorious Food!!! yes, my friend, you do have an unbelievable knack for making the tastiest food – and “table talk” with you can’t be beat. Think you might share your “best” chocolate chip cookie recipe???

Honestly – I was JUST telling a woman I know about your chocolate chip cookies…..the browned butter….yummmmmmmm! I think I might have to make some right now!

You have my full encouragement to keep reading cookbooks and cooking! We have all been blessed by the food, faith, and fellowship your love has provided!

So glad you are still enjoying cooking (I’m sure you’re family is still glad as well!). I remember when I was in bed for 3 months, pregnant with Sophie and with some fanstastic “morning sickness”, I couldn’t stop watching the Food Network either! Great news you’re feeling well!! xoxo

The Food Network, yeah!!!!! I even have it on my favorites. Today Dave decided to defrost the freezer so I spent all morning making vegetable soup. Wish we lived closer so I could share. Youe chocolate chip cookies sound interesting. I MUST give them a try. I know what you mean about your taste buds. I remember even disliking water. Hugs

Those browned butter chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, too. Browned butter makes everything better. I make a browned butter tomato sauce that will send your eyes rolling into the back of your head – it’s fantastic in my green tomato parmesan, but I prefer to slurp it straight out of the pot. Email or message me if you want the recipe.

Yummm….I remember those cookies well! What a great week that was. Some of our fondest memories. Glad you felt well and had a good weekend with your mom. Love you bunches chickie!

We call those THE Sara Cookies in our household. We LOVE them! I must put those on my agenda for the week! Matter of fact, I have to bake for Valentine’s Day at the Embassy. I will definitely make those. Looking forward to some recipes soon. Although even though I have the recipe. it just won’t turn out as good as yours. You have THE magical touch. Did I tell you I make your Orzo Roasted Vegetable Salad all the time? We call it THE Sara Orzo Salad.

I have told you how many times my kids say to me, “We wish Aunt Jane were here to cook supper tonight!!!” I usually run them out of the kitchen with a wooden spoon caked with the blackened bits of supper I am about to feed them! We just call you THE best around here…nevermind about your cooking!

So glad this time around is better than the last. Please don’t buy those other three cookbooks, or at least not all of them. Remember you have a birthday coming in March and we’ll need some good ideas! Love to you all, and your Mom

My friend was just mentioning a chocolate chip cookie recipe from Cook’s Illustrated…small world! I am SO making them! And I get to eat EVERY SINGLE ONE since my picky husband isn’t a fan of chocolate chips… So spill: which cookbooks did you buy and which are on your wish list? Also, I recently made the 100% whole wheat chocolate chip cookies from Good to the Grain and they were surprisingly good!
    much love and prayers, holly

    Sarah,

I think you will remember me because of the talk we had about
the Lord the one and only time you treated me at Farmersville Medical.
You were such a gift to me that day and you listening to me with Love the way you did when I was such an emotional mess stayed with me.The next time I needed medical treatment and asked for you, I heard about your ordeal. My heart was in a heavy clutch as Jeanese (spelling?) and I stood at the window trading tears.I have been praying for you and your family since and will continue to do so.The Lord is indeed our strength and refuge and a very present help in times of trouble. His plan never was for the devil to rob from us, and His provision is sufficient ! I have seen miracle working faith in my life and all around me this year.So so glad to hear you are moving ahead !

Just in time. It’s snowing today. COOKIES!!! It’s all I can think about. They’re in the oven, now!
    Thanks!
    xoxo

  14. Pam says:

If the chocolate chip cookie recipe is anything like the brownie recipe, I’m in trouble! And any time you want them just let me know, I’ll bake and ship them to you!

Sorry I spelled your name wrong, SARA.
