Conversations from the back seat: Part 3

On the way home from church tonight we were talking about a new family we met. The wife and son were at our table and we found out that her husband is deployed to Iraq where he is flying Blackhawk helicopters. JD was telling the girls that this guy was doing some dangerous work. Which led to this:

Elena: “You were just working in the hospital in Afghanistan, right Daddy?”

Katie: “Yeah, the worst thing that could have happened to you was that you got sick.”

Elena: “All you got was that stuff on your toe.”

Which although it was the worst case of fungus I’ve ever seen and took six months to clear up, I don’t think it qualifies him for a Purple Heart.

And we’re okay with that.

  1. Papa says:

I remember the story, true, of course, of the direct body to body blood transfusion at the Afghan hosp. from one current Alexandrian to a small Afghan child who had been seriously injured. I think that deserves a “heart” of some kind.
