New York, New York

My eldest and I are off to NEW YORK CITY  (say it like these dudes for full effect )for the weekend. It’s our first mother daughter trip and we are going to have a great time.

Katie is beside herself with joy because we are going with her FAVORITE (emphasis hers) cousin, Sara and my sister Ann. Katie has told everyone in 3 states how excited she is. Having Sara all to herself is a dream come true for that child of mine.

We’ll see Phantom of the Opera tomorrow night and then see if we can score last minute tickets to something else on Saturday. We are going to feed them New York Pizza, real bagels, Dim Sum from China Town and an Egg Cream from Juniors. And that’s just the first day! We’ll be walking so much that we won’t even feel guilty.

I personally have been taking notes from Big Mama and What Not to Wear and plan on finding some of those shops that Clinton and Stacy frequent. However, without their gift of the $5000 Visa card, there is a really good chance that I’ll be doing mostly window shopping.

Full report on Monday.

I don’t know how you’ll be able to stand the suspense.

Don’t feel bad for our youngest. She and her daddy have a full weekend planned with lots of fun stuff. She’s not the least bit sad to have him all to herself.

Have a great weekend!

Safe trip, you folks. Have a wonderful time. As you walk among those 55 story buildings, remind Katie that her great great great great great + grandfather lived there with Peter Stuyvesant in 1652 when it was Nieu Amsterdam. That grandpa’s name was Jans Theunnis Covert, hence the name Covert, NY. This Dutch connection could explain why her daddy, like the Dutch, could be a tad stubborn, yet, welcoming to many many different types of folk. And maybe, just maybe, that gene got down even further? Who knows. The other part of the Manhattan story is that when the Duke of York showed up, the Dutch chose not to fight, just turned the place over to those English. So, there is likely an English gene floating in that surname y’all share. And, obviously, they liked to wear red coats and fight! But, that backfired; when they fought, they marched ahead in a solid line in those red coats and those sneaky colonists hid behind trees and picked them off with their muskets!

Hope you have a great time. I’m a little jealous but I get over that real quick when I see what you are going to be packing into a day. (can you tell the splint is gone) Anyway, have a wonderful time!!!

Have a GREAT time! Please tell Katie thank you so much for watching Phantom with me when we were there – I’d never seen the whole thing, and it was very special to see it with her.

I’m afraid you, of all people, will never be the recipient of Stacy and Clinton’s $5000 VISA card. Sorry. Maybe you could nominate me and I’d split it with you???

What a coincidence. We just got back from going to an organ concert (which will be broadcast nationally, by the way) with the mother of one of the actresses in the NYC Phantom production!

If you are looking for a great show I highly recommend Mary Poppins. It is in a beautiful theater (Amsterdam) and it was the highlight of my recent trip to NYC. I thought it was fabulous. It is not just like the movie.

  7. Paula Hampton says:

How wonderful!!! I hope you have a fantastic time!

Ahh- my 18 year old has not yet had her trip to NYC and she feels like her like is not complete. It’s not! It will be a blast when we make it happen.
I’ve enjoyed my visit, everything from Living Water to tomato soup and sweet words from your husband about you. Hope you had a fabulous trip!
